Immigration
Many people immigrate to America every day. From 1892 to the mid 1900's people would pass through Ellis Island in New York City Harbor to be checked out before they were allowed to enter the United States. The immigrants were greeted by the Statue of Liberty as they entered the harbor. Over 40 percent of Americans can trace their heritage to Ellis Island.

your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
